Seeking attention

In a day where everyone has their own platform to speak from people are starving for attention and recognition like never before. And since their phone gives them the opportunity, they speak more frequently, louder, and crazier than anyone else to showcase their uniqueness. Much of what is happening on social media is a race to see who can get the most people to recognize them. Sadly this has the opposite effect. Mental illness, anxiety, and depression are at all time highs.

Gaining recognition is a good thing. It's something you need. You shouldn't be ashamed of wanting to be recognized. But if you try to promote yourself it will not turn out well. You must let others recognize you, not yourself. Let others build you up, not yourself.

When you hear someone talking good about themselves, what do you think about them? That they are amazing? Or annoying?

If you stop soliciting recognition you will receive less, but it will be pure when you get it. A small amount of unsolicited recognition will satisfy this need better than ten times the amount of fake or half-hearted compliments.
